In November the Kaua‘i County Council approved a fare increase for charter and touring taxi services across Kaua‘i, a change that will notably affect rides to the North Shore. Under the updated ordinance, the “Rate 2” tariff for charter/tour taxis — often used for longer runs, including routes between Līhuʻe and Princeville/Hā‘ena — will rise. The two-hour starting meter climbs from $120 to $180, and the additional 15-minute increment increases from $15 to $22.50.

While standard metered taxis (“Rate 1”) remain at the current $3.50 starting fare and $0.45 per tenth-mile or 45 seconds of waiting time, the specific fare estimate for a taxi from Līhuʻe Airport to Princeville or Hā‘ena is already listed at $88.50–$118.50 under existing rates.

The increase takes effect immediately upon the mayor’s signature and will be integrated into the Kaua‘i County Code.
