1. The Hawaiian archipelago spans 2,000 miles to the southwest of the contiguous United States, consisting of 137 volcanic islands. The eight main islands, from northwest to southeast, are Niʻihau, Kauaʻi, Oʻahu, Molokaʻi, Lānaʻi, Kahoʻolawe, Maui, and Hawaiʻi, the latter also known as the Big Island.
2. It is the most isolated island chain on earth.
3. Hawaii became the fiftieth state in 1959 and is the southernmost state. It is the only state that is not geographically located in North America or in the tropics. .

8. Hawaii’s tallest mountain, Mauna Kea, rises 13,796 ft (4,205 m) above mean sea level. It is taller than Mount Everest when measured from the base of the mountain, which lies on the floor of the Pacific Ocean and rises approximately 33,500 feet (10,200 m).
9. Honolulu has a population of more than 100,000 people and is the most remote city in the world, being 2,392 miles away from its nearest city in California.
